I'm embarking on a trip from North Carolina to Ohio at the end of the month and I'd like to purchase a new car GPS system. I have very limited knowledge of how they work in general, but it is my understanding that the battery life is 3-4 hours. How does one use the GPS on a 9 hour drive? Should I shut down the GPS in situations where I'm perhaps on one highway for several hours?
Also, any GPS recommendations? Thank you!|||I don't know what sort of GPS you're planning on getting, but my TomTom can simply be plugged into the cigarette lighter for power and charging if the battery gets low. I would expect the same is true of most other systems. They'd be kind of useless otherwise.
As for recommendations... I've only ever owned/used a TomTom. I like it alright. It's easy to use, and easy to update. I have one of the cheaper models, and it's always managed to get me to where I needed to go.|||Just insert the charger of the GPS in the cigarette lighter, it will charge by itself or will work by itself even without battery.
GPS recommendation.
1.Voice street by street guidance%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;most important one
2. Lane assist (showing in LCD)
3. Minimum 5 inch screen
4. Lifetime map update....others do not have lifetime map update and the manufacturer charges $50 or more for the map updates if there are new streets.
5. All streets of all USA and sometimes Canada too
$$ Extras you might need or not need
1. traffic alert
2. bluetooth
Known brands: Tom-Tom, Garmin or Magellan|||Any GPS you buy will have a power cord that plugs into the vehicle outlet and keeps the battery charged.
As to recommendations, it depends on what is important to you. In my case TomTom works best for me.|||Plug it in Dumas! Sheesh!
