How do I find out how many GPS satellites are currently over a city?

Is there something that will tell me how many GPS satellites are over a city (or even a state) at a given time?|||grab a gun start shooting in the air hope that one falls down|||This does not answer your question precisely, but the "outdoors" type of handheld GPS receivers have a screen that presents a sort of all-around skyview. The satellites that your GPS "sees" appear as points distributed across the skyview screen. Satellites overhead appear in the middle of the display. Satellites further away (near the horizon) appear near the edges of the display. This skyview screen at least gives you an idea of the number of satellites near you.

But if you want a "lookup" web page for any city anywhere, sorry, I don't know of one.|||Either of these two links should give you what you want. They are both windows only programs which you would need to install.

This isn't something most users care about, the tools are intended for survey users who sometimes do care about that sort of thing. This means that the tools are overkill (and overly complex) for what you want to do but will let you see which satellites will be in view at any given time and location.

You will need to install the tool, download a current almanac (the file giving the current satellite orbit information) and then give it your location in latitude/longitude. But after that it should be able to tell you everything you want to know.
