How can I track my son using GPS without him knowing?

So my plan is to buy a GPS device that consists of some kind of small black box that I can easily hide inside his backpack. Then I would be able to track him online.

Does such exist?|||Yes, such things exist. Google for "GPS tracking device" and you'll find lots of options.

They are typically about 4x2x1 inches (but getting smaller all the time) and you'll need to keep the batteries topped up. Get one that runs on AA's and get some rechargeable and a good charger, it'll be slightly larger that way but is a lot more convenient, a built in battery means you need to remove it from his bag to recharge, with AA's you can have two sets and swap them over.

You're going to be looking at about $200 plus either a monthly fee if you want constant tracking or a fee each time you look up the devices location.

Having said that unless you have a specific reason to think he's at risk (e.g. a messy divorce with contested custody) you're being a little on the paranoid side, the risk of a random abduction is tiny.

The media have caused people to worry about things completely out of proportion because fear and panic are good for the ratings. The money would probably have a far greater impact on his safety if you spent it on a defensive / safety conscious driving course for yourself and anyone else who's car he may be in, car accidents are the number one health risk to children.|||ye mate i have an idea.. get a grip and give your son some freedom :) I mean jeez come on your his parent do you not trust him!?
