What's to stop GPS companies teaming up with radar detector companies and provided real time Satellite images of where the radar is being transmitted from.
You may have seen real time GPS imagery like on the Iphone, what's to stop GPS companies teaming up with radar detector companies and provided the exact spot the cops running radar from via satellite?|||Obstruction of Justice?
It is possible, i own the Passport 9500 which has GPS installed to be able to 'mark' locations. They could modify the design so that it could transmit back every time it goes off ion order to warn other drivers.
There would be some problems with false alarms though...ie, radar doors, road signs and even some farm equipment uses radar for speed.|||lack of technology, tremendoous need for people and the cost.|||Y would the police buy a unit like that? That is possibly the worst idea for everyone.|||Can you imagine how complicated that would be?
Most GPS devices only receive the time stamp from the satellites. They do not transmit anything. You would have to have a GPS device that would receive information from a radar detector, distinguish between police radar and supermarket doors and highway signs, send that data to the satellite the satellite would then have to process that and then be constantly updating all it's maps and relaying the info back to the GPS. The GPS would have to be constantly downloading tons and tons of data.
It isn't feasible at this point.|||What's to stop them is that it's not possible. The range of a traffic radar is a few hundred yards. No way to pick them all up.
A similar idea - but without GPS - is already available as am iPhone app. Users who see a cop with a radar hit a button on their iPhone and it sends its position (using cell-tower triangulation) to the company that then sends the position back out to all subscribers.
